Living on Island Time

Yesterday when we arrived I wasn’t sure this would be one of my favorite campgrounds but the more time we are here and looking around, the more we both like it. There are 356 campsites and we are tucked securely in the back. Tonight the no see ‘ums were a little pesky but other than that, we have no complaints. We have walked and ridden our bikes throughout the campground and everyone is so friendly and helpful. Many are long time visitors and some are year round visitors. It’s always great to talk to those who can give us insight into activities we can pursue while here. We just talked to someone who suggested visiting Cayo Costo, one of the largest barrier islands in the area. You have to take a ferry over but the 7 mile beach sounds like it is beautiful. Cayo Costa is a relaxed, seven-mile-long island destination that retains its natural wilderness and sense of remoteness, a place that moves at its own pace which sounds great to us. We will definitely visit while here. We also talked to some locals about the best places for shelling and everyone gave us a different answer but most agree that the area has become so populated that finding shells is difficult and the beaches are so crowded. I’ve always wanted to visit Sanibel and Captiva Islands so we will go, even if the shelling isn’t good. I want a chance to get the Sanibel Stoop from searching for shells. We will spend tonight researching the area to determine the best places to visit during the next several days. Until tomorrow, stay on island time with me!!
